I am a proud Indian, seeing the feeble response we make when such acts happen is totally disheartening. The post independence generation till now had heroes like Mahathma Gandhi, Lala Lajpath Rai, Rani Lakshmi Bhai, Bagath Singh, Chandrashekar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardhar vallabhai Patel and many others to remember and be proud of. I doubt there is any leader today whom the future generation can take pride on. It is time we wake up and act upon.We really want those men of steel reborn.

I condemn these attacks by these terrorists and whichever agency they belong to. I am also shocked that we are so vulnerable that in such a scenario, we just keep looking around helplessly, not knowing whom to ask for answers. As a common man, after so many attacks on us across almost all our cities, I need to know an answer to a simple question: what do I expect the next time something like this happens?

Since the government functionary failed big time in taking security issue of common man seriously even after intillegence input, I as a citizen of india ans a tax payer demand removal of all security for all the politicians across lenght and breadth of India. How can one justify Chief minister Mayawati Ordering three Jets for personal use when our commaandos were fyling slow airplanes to reach ground zero. Also she along with Jaylalita has a police protection of 400 police men apart from NSG commandos. If they cannot protect the citizens politicians do not have any right to avail security services on tax payers money. A PIL has to be done in this regards. Jai Hind. Long live the democracy and resilicance of India. I have an appeal to all the media - Dont give the terrorist dignity of having a religion. Erase the word Islamic or Hindu terrorism. Please do not give then religion. The attackers were pakistani militanta not islamic because many muslims have also died in the attack. I slaute the muslim community in India on the way they have come up and stood by secularism and denounced terrorism .

Dear All, In general most of us reluctant to vote as we do not feel candidates deserve . Do you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section " 49-O" that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone! Yes such a feature is available, but these leaders have never disclosed it for obvious reasons. This is called "49-O". It is suggested to use the facility . Now if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them. This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way; of our whole political system. It is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public.... Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India .show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting. So don't miss your chance. So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O) Let this reach everyone who wants her/his vote to make a difference. Use your voting right for a better INDIA

Uday - Hyderabad

Considering the power that media has, all the news channels (national and regional), the print media and FM radios should take the initiative in eduacating people in regards to electing their representatives. Send a message to the masses that would say "JUST AS YOU WOULD WANT YOUR CHILD TO BE WELL EDUCATED, YOU WILL NEED TO ELECT A WELL EDUCATED AND HONEST REPRESENTATIVE TO GOVERN YOU. IF YOU DONT FIND ONE, USE 49-O". Get the message to all nook and corners of the country. The media should instill a sense of responsibility in public with messages that people can relate to. If people still, elect rowdy elements, bring the people to shame before the country. Compare and build a sense of competition among constituencies in electing good and efficient leaders. This should bring the first step towars cleansing the system.

Have any one thought what will be the end of such nasty things !? No strong action is taken by INDIAN Govt. Each and every person knows reseaon for this which is just to hold their VOTE BANK. Vote bank politics has made our system one of the worst system in world. People like us (common man) can do nothing because of lack of power. So, MEDIA is the only power in our hand which can restrict politicians in each & every aspect keeping eye on their acts & putting them in front of people.

[I have been sending this mail to whoever discusses the terror attack or asks for suggestions, from friends to the media at large, even our President, PM and Cong Chief.... Except an IT security group where one member said our CD program seems to have come unstuck, no one has acknowledged this. Neither has anyone even mentioned Civil Defence. Does anyone care?] I observe that we seem to have forgotten all about our own Civil Defence program. I also find with misgivings, that while so many opinions and observations have been offered, not one takes cognisance of this very basic need. In fact, if you run a search for Civil Defence in Google, the Indian page opens about 10th, even lagging behind countries like New Zealand! I quote from the website http://dgcd.nic.in/civil_defence2.htm of the Director General of Civil Defence: QUOTE Although the Civil Defence Act 1968 is applicable throughout the country, the organisation is only raised in such areas and zones which are tactically and strategically considered vulnerable from enemy attack points of view. At present, Civil Defence activities are restricted to 225 categorised towns spread over 35 States/Union Territories. Civil Defence is primarily organised on voluntary basis except for a small nucleus of paid staff and establishment which is augmented during emergencies. The present target of Civil Defence volunteers is 12.49 lakhs, out of which 6.0 lakhs have already been raised and 4.8 lakhs have been trained. These volunteers are administered and trained by 68 Deputy Controllers, 17 Medical Officers and 503 Nos. of C. D. Instructors, which are full time paid posts. UNQUOTE 1. Given the wider spread of enemy threats and vulnerable locations, should the number of categorised zones be revised? 2. Volunteerism and citizens' training in Civil Defence needs drastic up-scaling. 3. To us born in the 50s, who saw three wars in the course of our schooling and graduated with the Emergency, this may not feel so but later generations have not seen a national emergency. 4. The NCC and NSS programmes need to be compulsorily introduced in schools as well as Territorial Army locations be increased all over India. 5. The last para under this link says that the entire Civil Defence budget provision is about Rs 6.00 Crore. Is this enough? 6. A soldier or policeman cannot be expected to man each nook and cranny in our vast land. Neither can we expect elected leaders to ride over our roofs like Santa Claus and watch us like Big Brother. 7. If the enemy could indoctrinate and train such "commandos" in just three months (as claimed by the captured attacker in Mumbai) that 10 of them resisted over 100 of NSG and Marine Commandos for over 50 hours, we should be able to counter this by giving positive indoctrination and training at least one batch per Indian village every year, of "Nation-Building-Commandos" equipped to meet all emergencies and empower developmental activities, and at the disposal of each District administration. If anything else, a good civil defence programme, by channelising all energies, will create a powerful society, beyond addressing our security issues. Sincerely, Udit Chaudhuri -- MAXIMISE THE MILLIWATT http://micropower.blogspot.com

The way I see it....only way out of terrorism is to somehow help the Islamic world and all those who harbour such deep hatred and intolerance for the "other people" resolve their anger and pain. All the countries should join hands to resolve whatever the issues are to make them feel safe, secure and draw them into the "inner circle" so that they do not feel like they need to kill to connect. I feel extremely sorry for the young terrorists as much as for the innocent people who died. If only they were given a hand when they were screaming for help, their energies would not have been so misguided. They not only trained in many arms and combat skills, meticuluously planned their act, also drugged themselves inorder to not feel the pain of their violent acts and went on a rampage. Peace, Joy and Love is the only way and there is no other way. Till we include all these misguided people into the mainstream they will always think of more and more creative ways to cause terror. How much more are we going to spend on security, how long are we going to live in fear before we realise that there is no such thing as an impregnable fort. It is easier to break all the walls between "us" and "them" so that there is only "US". Who kills one's own ? I wish everybody could see that. I wish people would stop blaming each other, blaming the lapses and blaming the politicians. No amount of security or intelligence can stop a determined group on such a mission of hatred. I dream of a world without borders.

After the disapointing display of intelligence put up my by country, i just have two question to ask to the 'government': what steps are you taking to make me feel safe in my homeland? How many more blows does the country have to take before you awaken and do something worthwhile, for a change?

I condemn these attacks by these terrorists and whichever agency they belong to. I am also shocked that we are so vulnerable that in such a scenario, we just keep looking around helplessly, not knowing whom to ask for answers. As a common man, after so many attacks on us across almost all our cities, I need to know an answer to a simple question: what do I expect the next time something like this happens?

I offer my deepest condolences to all the brave army jawans, commandos and cops who laid down their lives to save the rest of us. It fills me with pride to stand as one of their countrymen. However, there is a feeling that lingers in me, that a lot of their lives could have been saved with a bit more preparedness and better equipment.
